Exterior routing protocol
The ExteriorGatewayProtocol (EGP) was a routing protocol used to connect different autonomous systems on the Internet from the mid-1980s until the mid-1990s, when it was replaced by Border GatewayProtocol (BGP).
(EGP) A protocol which distributes routing information to the
routers which connect autonomous systems. The term
"gateway" is historical, and "router" is currently the
preferred term. There is also a routing protocol called EGP
